Q: How do you find time to write?
A:Finding time to write is not a problem. It's finding time to do everything else that I have trouble with.
Q:Where do you get your ideas?
A:There's a secret mail-order catalogue that only a few writers know about. No, seriously. Ideas are everywhere. There's one right there. And watch out! There goes another one! Ideas can come from music, movies, newspaper stories, a stranger in a crowd. Just keep your eyes and your mind open!
Q: How do you pick the names for your characters?
A: What makes you assume I pick the names? Usually they just show up as I'm writing. Like a comfortable pair of shoes - if it fits, wear it.
Q:How long have you been writing?
A: Since my first grade teacher gave me a pencil.
Q: No, how long have you been writing fiction?
A: Since my first grade teacher asked me why I didn't finish my work.
Q: Do you have any advice for an aspiring writer?
A: No
Q: Oh, come on!
A: Oh, okay. Read Read Read Read Read. And then READ some more. Write the kind of book that you like to read. Tell your story honestly and with your heart. Also, proofread! Send an editor the absolutely CLEANEST manuscript you can produce.
